Shelby County Has Its First Case of COVID-19

The Shelby County Health Department reported Tuesday that it has received confirmation of the first COVID-19 case in the county.

The resident is currently hospitalized and receiving medical care at Hannibal Regional Hospital, and is recovering, according to the statement released by the health department.

The identity of the person was not released by the department to protect their privacy.

The Shelby County Health Department will be working with the person to ensure compliance with the Department of Health and Senior Services and the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines with regard to isolation and identifying close contacts with other individuals to monitor for their symptoms.

The health department also stated it is working with Hannibal Regional Hospital on this matter.
