With the passage of the ballot issue to build a new South Shelby Elementary School, Shelby County R-IV school board members will come together Thursday night in a special meeting to take a detailed look at some of the options that they will need to decide on for the near future. The School’s attorney, or a representative from the attorney’s office will also be on hand to hopefully answer any questions the board may have. Shelby County R-IV Superintendent Tim Maddex is also hoping that a representative from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will be on hand for the meeting, but he hasn’t received confirmation on that as of Tuesday afternoon.
Board members and Maddex will look at different options on how to approach the scope of work. They will talk more about what kind of timeline to try to put the South Shelby Elementary project on. They will discuss the building itself from a structural standpoint, and they will also take a look at the finances and those options for the project.

The South Shelby Scholar Bowl team won its Sectional match against a very good Scotland County team last week in two straight matches (to win we needed to win two out of three matches). They won the first match 450 to 200 and the second match 400 to 250. “We were neck and neck with Scotland County to start each match,” Coach Ann Neubauer said. During the second quarter tossup and bonus round they were able to pull away and go on to win each match.
