Community members from all over Shelby County gathered at the Shelbina Christian Church’s Family Life Center at noon on Sunday for the annual Neighbors Helping Neighbors Benefit.
This year’s event netted over $21,500, according to Donna Mitchell. Approximately 600 people were served for the meal.
As always, an auction of donated items was held after the meal with the money made going to NHN.
Since the first of the year, Neighbors Helping Neighbors has already gifted $15,250 to those taking cancer treatments, experiencing long hospital stays, major surgeries, and to those who have lost their home to a fire.

Members of the Shelbina Fire Protection District tend to Donald Shouse shortly after his vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned coming to rest back on its tires.

A one-vehicle accident on slick roads resulted in minor injuries to a Shelbyville man at around 9:03 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 22, on Highway 36, just east of South Shelby.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2005 Jeep Liberty driven by 83-year-old Donald Shouse was west bound. Shouse lost control of the vehicle on the ice covered road, ran off the north side of the roadway and struck a ditch and overturned. The vehicle actually went off of Highway 36, past a merge lane and into the grass north of the merge lane.
