Improvements After Spring Tornado Make High School Facilities Better than Ever

Pictured above is a part of the new bleachers at the South Shelby Football Complex and the brand new press box, which is eight feet longer than the previous one.

When the March tornado ripped through the South Shelby Complex, just missing the biggest part of the buildings, it did a major amount of damage to the athletic facilities. Thanks to the school’s outstanding insurance, the district was able to come out with new and nicer equipment.
Shelby County R-IV Superintendent Tim Maddex had to go through a spring and summer that most superintendents hope to never have to experience. Busy getting estimates, comparing bids and making recommendations to the board, the process had to move quickly.
Even as the football teams warmed up just minutes before the first game of the year, you could hear the sound of clanging and banging behind the new bleachers as work was being done on a set of stairs leading up to the press box.
