Shelbina City Marshal Jerry Fenton led a discussion on ways the City leaders could achieve the goal of cleaning up several properties throughout the town. This took place during Tuesday night’s council meeting at the Shelbina City Hall.
   Steps to Clean
   Up the City
Fenton had a copy of Macon’s City ordinance and highlighted what that council did with derelict vehicles.
Fenton read the City of Shelbina’s current ordinance which basically said if its on the street and has weeds growing up into it, could be moved. He said it’s not that solid of a ordinance because grass won’t grow on the street.
Fenton also talked about an ordinance that could be adopted where the Marshal could deem what is a nuisance. He said he would rather have something set in stone, to be fair and consistent with everyone.
Fenton said they send out about 30 letters a month, but could probably send more, depending on how strict the council wants the department to be. He said they get a lot of push back from the public as it is.
He was asked if an ordinance could state that cars couldn’t be parked in the yard unless it was a designated driveway. Fenton said that they’d have to check into that to make sure it doesn’t violate anyone’s constitutional rights.
