Heavy Traffic on Local Gravel Road Causing Hazordous and Dusty Conditions

Around 20 people showed up to meet with the Shelby County Commission on Thursday, June 30, concerning dangers caused by excessive use to county road 343, while Highway 15 is closed south of Shelbyville.
With the Black Creek Bridge being replaced on Highway 15, traffic has picked up a great deal on County Road 343. Motorists are traveling west on Route U (Christine Crossing) and then turning north on Route 343. Others are going east on Route AA and then north on Route 349. The high rate of vehicles and the high speeds they are traveling is causing dangerous situations. Dust is making it hard to see and vehicles are on top of other vehicles before the drivers realize it.
Cole Hinshaw, who lives on Route 349 with his family, read a statement to the commission. He was requesting the speed limit be lowered to 35 miles per hour. Hinshaw said David Farrell counted 102 vehicles on the road between 6 and 8 a.m. one day last week.
