Clarence Man Suffers Moderate Injuries in Accident Just East of Shelbina on Monday

A three-vehicle accident resulted in moderate injuries to 55-year-old Walter W. Daniel of Clarence Monday morning. Daniel was transported by Air Evac to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment. He was later released.

A Clarence man suffered moderate injuries in a three-vehicle injury one mile east of Shelbina on Highway 36 at around 11:10 a.m. Monday.
   According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2014 Freightliner driven by David E. Dobson, 43, of Jacksonville, Ill., was eastbound when he ran into the back of a John Deere 4995 Self Propelled Mower Conditioner driven by 55-year-old Walter W. Daniel of Clarence.
   After the collision, a tire from Daniel’s farm equipment struck a 2004 Gulfstream BT Cruiser driven by John Basch of Plainfield, Ind.
   Daniel suffered moderate injuries and was transported by Air Evac to University Hospital in Columbia.

Demolition Grant Has a Start Date of July 18

Shelbina City Clerk Tim Lacy said that the start date for the removal of houses for the Demolition Grant is July 18. He told this to council members and Mayor Al Dimmitt during Tuesday night’s council meeting at the Shelbina City Hall.
   DEMO Grant
   Lacy said he talked to David Cheek of Mark Twain Regional Council of Governments and Cheek told him that Holman Construction said it has a start date of July 18.
   Lacy also said Cheek sent over notice to proceed documents that will be signed to make everything official. Lacy asked what the holdup had been and he was told that it was taking longer than usual to wrap up their previous projects. Lacy noted that when July 18 gets officially locked in as the start date, they will have 120 days from that point to finish the project.
   Budget Approved
   The council passed a motion to approve the budget that it had been reviewing for the last three months.
   The total general revenues and total general expenses both equaled $7,793,724.26.

Fourth of July Events Scheduled for the Lake

Listed below are the July 4th schedule of events at the Shelbina Lake.
   For the first time, a mud run will be held at the lake with registration set for 8:30 a.m.. It will take place at the bath house
   At 9 a.m. the Children’s MUD Run starts for kids under the age of 12. For those over the age of 12, the Mud Run will begin at 10 a.m. at the bath house.
   There will also be an inflatable Obstacle Course provided by the Shelbina Police Department in the Shelter 3 Area.
   The Concession Stand will open and will be run by the City of Shelbina at Shelter 3.
   11 a.m. the Barrel Spray will be provided by the Shelbina Fire Protection District in the Shelter 3 Area.
   At 11 a.m., the Ninja Warrior Course will open by the park board at the Shelter 3 playground
   The Canoe Races will be held at 1:30 p.m. and sponsored by the Community State Bank at the Shelbina Lake near Shelter 3
    At 3 p.m. the winners of the events will be announced at Shelter 3.
   The fireworks display will take place at dusk at the Shelbina Lake, as fireworks will be launched from the west side of the lake.

Shelby County Fair to Kick Off Tuesday; Will Feature a Carnival

The Shelby County Fair will kick off Tuesday, July 5 and will feature a week full of activities for people of all ages.
   Things get started early Tuesday as registration for the poultry show, and rabbit and guinea pigs will all begin at 8 a.m. The poultry show will begin at 8:30 followed by the rabbit show and Guinea pig show.
   At 1 p.m. a fashion review will take place at the Shelbina Villa.
   The Little Mr. and Miss Contest will take place in the grandstand beginning at 6 p.m. That will be followed by the Queen contest at 7 p.m. A kids fishing derby will take place that evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Shelbina Lake at the south dam.
   Wednesday will feature a cat show at 10:30 a.m. and a Clover Kid small animal show at 11 a.m.
   Helen Russell will be performing at the Shelbina Villa from 1:30 - 3 p.m.
   A sheep show will take place at 4 p.m.
   A political discussion will take place at 6 p.m. in the grandstand. It’s sponsored by the Shelby County Farm Bureau.

South Shelby Class of 1966 Celebrates its 50th Year

The 1966 South Shelby graduating class, the first of the graduating Cardinals, celebrated their 50th anniversary during the weekend of June 10, 11 and 12. Clarence and Shelbina schools consolidated and moved into the new South Shelby high school the 1965-1966 school year. The class started off their reunion Friday night in Clarence with approximately 55 in attendance for a meet and greet dinner. Saturday afternoon, Kathleen Wilhem of the Shelby County Historical Museum hosted class members with a tour of the museum which included various schools’ history. The main event Saturday night was held at the Shelbina American Legion hall with social time, dinner, memories shown and told, memorial service and taps for our 14 deceased classmates, recognition of classmates who served in the military and dancing to 50’s and 60’s music.
