R-IV Board Approves Budget Resolution and Tours Construction Sites

The Shelby County R-IV School Board passed a motion to approve the budget resolution that states the budget be amended to match actual expenditures in any overspent line during its regular board meeting on Wednesday, June 8 at the middle school library.
   Budget Resolution
   Shelby County R-IV Superintendent Tim Maddex explained that each year the district does a budget resolution in June to make what was spent in each line item equal the actual budget. He said this speeds the process up for the auditors. This is for any accumulated expenditures or bills that have been previously approved by the board.
   The motion passed by a 6-0 vote.
   Principals Reports
   Clarence Elementary Principal Kelly Williams reported that students participated in a spelling bee on May 19 and the winners for second and third grade division was Ashlyn Schaefer and for fourth and fifth grade division was Jastyn Johnson.
   Williams reported that Kim Thompson has been raising money all year for the Sensory Room at South Shelby, and she donated $148 towards the room.

Highway 15 to Close at Black Creek for Bridge Replacement

On Monday, June 27, The Missouri Department of Transportation will close Highway 15 south of Shelbyville to replace the Black Creek bridge, located just less than a mile south of Missouri Route 168 in Shelbyville. “It will take our contractor about four months to complete the project,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Haeffner.
   Drivers can use the state route detour over Route 168 to Route T to Route 36 during the closure. Bleigh Construction was awarded the contract for around $1,320,000. The new bridge will be 32 feet wide, which is four feet wider than the existing bridge.

Big BAM Music Lineup for Thursday in Shelbina

There will be a variety of music available Thursday in Shelbina as part of the Big BAM Bicycle Across Missouri event.
   The headliner will be The Black Lillies, who will perform at the Shelbina Lake Amphitheater at around 8 p.m. Thursday. They are out of Tennessee and play a variety of country, rock and Americana music.
   Opening for The Black Lillies will be the Jeremiah Johnson Blues Band out of St. Louis. They are a rocking blues band that will get the crowed amped up.

One Vehicle Accident Results in Moderate Injuries to a Columbia Man

A one-vehicle accident left a Columbia man with moderate injuries around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, on Route C, 1.5 miles south of Emden.
   According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 66-year-old Charles A. Watts, was driving a 2011 John Deere 825 I Gator when he attempted to make a left turn onto Route C. He traveled off the right side of the road and struck an embankment, returned to the road and traveled off the left side before coming to rest.
   Watts was transported by Salt River Ambulance to Hannibal Regional Hospital. It is unknown whether he was wearing a seat belt or not, according to the patrol. The Gator sustained moderate damage as a result of the accident and was towed from the scene by Shelbyvlle Auto Parts Inc.
