SCED Board Moves Forward on Assisting County Commission on USDA Rural Development Grant

The Shelby County Economic Development Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Ozark Steakhouse in the Heartland community. Attendees were Dave Barton, Vice President; John Malcarne, Secretary; Chris Wise, Treasurer; Troy Renner, Executive Director; board members Al Dimmitt, Kieth Pantaleo and James Watson; guests, Maurice Shuck, Eastern District Commissioner; Kerry McCarty, Western District Commissioner; Tim Lacy, Shelbina City Clerk; LeRoy Deichman, retired agronomist from Shelbyville; and Lou Ann Rongey, USDA Rural Development specialist from Kirksville. Presiding Commissioner Glenn Eagan joined the meeting via speakerphone. Absent were Board President Kip Pfannenstiel and board members Joe Berti and Dan Uhlmeyer. Vice President Barton called the meeting to order at 6:45 PM. A motion to approve the agenda was made by Al Dimmitt, seconded by Chris Wise and approved by all.

2016 South Shelby Prom

South Shelby High School held its Junior and Senior Prom Saturday night. Pictured above are Logan Wise and Christopher Werr stopping for a picture during the Grand March. Football Field Gets a Much Needed Makeover

Workers from Turf Mark out of Lake Ozark were busy Monday afternoon reworking the football field at South Shelby.

The South Shelby Booster Club is funding a project to revamp the Charles Rash Memorial Football Field.
   South Shelby Athletic Director Rob Wilt said that the field had acquired many low spots over the years where water pooled and didn’t allow for grass to grow healthy.
   Turf Mark, from Lake Ozark is doing the work.

Listeners Invited for Young Writer’s Conference at Shelbina Elementary

The Shelbina Elementary staff is inviting the community to attend the annual Young Writer’s Conference again this year. “Come One, Come All! We welcome all community members, parents, and grandparents to join us at Shelbina Elementary on Friday, May 6 to listen to some wonderful writing as our “Young Writers Lead The Way.”,” Monica Mitchell said.

National Day of Prayer is May 5

The Shelbina Ministerial Alliance will host a National Day of Prayer program on Thursday, May 5 in the Shelbina Library Park.
   The service will begin at 12:15 p.m. and conclude at 12:45 p.m. The First Baptist Church will be the backup location in case of bad weather.
