The Shelby County R-IV School Board reorganized with two new members prior to its regular meeting on Wednesday, April 13 in the middle school library.
   Reorganization of the
   Board
The board reorganized with the swearing in of new members David Farrell and Jim Foster. Scott Gough was elected board president and Brian Threlkeld was elected as vice-president.
   FCCLA Trip
   to San Diego
The cost for five people (three students, a chaperon and the FCCLA advisor) to travel to San Diego is right at $6,000, which includes the mandatory hotel, registration (which for the students is $235). Dee Kirby and Dylan Boling were at the meeting to request for additional funds from the board. She said it was much cheaper when the convention was in Chicago. The request was to increase what the board normally gives.
Boling said the chapter officers are going to Kansas City on Sunday, June 10, and needed approval from the board for the trip because it is on a Sunday and because of the distance. The board approved the trip to Kansas City.
Kirby will be serving on a board at the National Convention and won’t be able to spend much time with the kids. That is why Caroline Kirby will be going as a chaperon.
Later in the meeting Maddex explained that a few years ago the board voted to pay $500 per student with a maximum of $2,000 per vocation to attend National Convention. Maddex recommended $500 per student plus $500 more per chaperon.
After a short discussion, the board passed a motion to give $750 per student and chaperon for the FCCLA trip to San Diego. Kirby has had someone go to Nationals in the last 16 years.

The Shelbina City Council held a special meeting Tuesday evening to approve an ordinance prohibiting dangerous and exotic animals within the City of Shelbina.
After discovering that a residence occupied by Brandon Boyles on Mill Street in Shelbina has a building full of poisonous snakes, spiders and alligators, Mayor Al Dimmitt and the council showed great concern about the safety of others in town in the event that something could get loose from where they are being contained.
City Marshal Jerry Fenton and City Attorney John Wilcox have studied the situation and Wilcox was able to draw up an ordinance that takes effect immediately.
