Pictured above is the new Shelbina Fire Protection District pumper truck that was recently purchased.

The Shelbina Fire Protection District made a major upgrade to its vehicle fleet with the recent purchase of a 2016 Rescue Pumper.
According to Allan Wilt, the truck is an E-One and was built on an International Chassis. The cost of the truck was $324,725, and it was purchased on a seven year lease purchase.
The pumper has the ability to pump 1,500 gallons per minute, and it carries 1,000 gallons of water. It also features a 30 gallon foam tank, which will allow fire fighters to use foam on fuel fires at the simple press of a button.
The truck is fully equipped with rescue equipment. It was purchased from Banner Fire Equipment in Roxanne, Ill., and was bought on a seven year lease purchase.
Wilt said the new truck will replace a 1974 Ford Pumper and a 1989 GMC Rescue truck.
Many of the features on the truck that took time and effort can now be done at the push of a button. The ladder on top of the truck is lowered down by an hydraulic lever. There is a built in thremo camera, air packs, and many other features that will help save time and effort for fire fighters.

Shelbina City Council Approves Changes in Organizational Responsibility Realignment

The Shelbina City Council approved a motion to change the organizational responsibility alignment during the regular council meeting Tuesday night at the Shelbina City Hall.
   Organizational
   Realignment
The council passed a motion based off of earlier discussions to make Rob Trivette Public Works Supervisor. City Superintendent Dennis Klusmeyer will be moving his office from behind the water plant up to the City Hall office currently occupied by Shelby County Economic Development Director Troy Renner.
The SCED has found a new place for Renner’s office and he should be out of the City Hall in a couple of weeks. Mayor Al Dimmitt asked Klusmeyer if he could be in place at the City Hall by May 1.
   Public Comment
Bill Dees of MECO Engineering Company out of Hannibal was on hand to talk to the council about different grants available through the State of Missouri. He said the if the City was interested in working on getting any grants, he would be interested in working with the Klusmeyer on that.
He talked about different possibilities that are out there.
Dees said they would work with the City on a three part plan. MECO would help the City do the grant, it would also help with construction design and it would also assist with field supervision.
Dees said MECO doesn’t get paid unless the City is awarded the grant. He said he gets asked a lot about side streets and roads. Trails in parks and sidewalks to schools are other things they can help on. He was asked about roadways in parks (for instance the road at the Shelbina Lake). He said he wasn’t sure but would check it out and try to find out the answer.
Dees said they are working with the County on putting lights up around the Shelby County Courthouse in Shelbyville.
He passed out a sheet with a checklist of 10 or 12 bullet points of information so the council and mayor could see if this is something they would be interested in. Dees said he has worked with the City in the past with some wastewater issues.
